Baby Changing Table - Why You Need One

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Heather Owens When it comes to choosing a baby shower gift, it’s very easy to get tempted by all those cute little outfits that are often completely impractical. If you want to give the expectant mother (or yourself!) a very useful and practical gift, why not buy a changing table. These are fabulous pieces of furniture that are wonderful for a new mum’s back and help preserve your own mattress from destruction. I was given a changing table prior to the birth of my first child, and just took it for granted. It wasn’t until I went on holidays for a few days and was without it, that I realised just how wonderful it really was. My husband had suggested we hire one or perhaps even buy a collapsible one to take on holidays with us, but I foolishly said that it was only for four days and I would just use the bed where we were staying. It didn’t even take a day before I was thoroughly regretting that decision. I hadn’t realised just how often I used the changing table, and I hadn’t thought about just how uncomfortable it would be to go without it. The first thing I noticed was that I missed the convenient height of the changing table. Mine was perfect, I could change baby’s diaper without having to bend over at all, unless I wanted to give baby a kiss or cuddle. By the time I’d changed two diapers using a mat on the floor, my back was already starting to tell me just how much it missed the convenient height of the changing table. I shifted to the bed, which helped my back a little (and my knees!) but I still had to bend over and my back kept complaining. By the fifth change I was having trouble straightening up again - a problem I’d never had using my changing table. The other thing I hadn’t really thought about was how handy the changing table is as a storage unit. All my frequently used items were right on hand, and anything else that might be needed was neatly tucked in the cupboards underneath. Mind also contains some drawers with all the basic baby clothing in it, so I don’t have to move away from the changing table at all while changing a diaper. It’s amazing how quickly all those containers get mixed up and lost in your diaper bag. Finally I gave up and handed baby changing duties over to my husband, while my back straightened itself out again. Once I was fine we alternated doing the changes. I was extremely glad to get home again! Every day from then on I thanked my lucky stars that someone was kind enough to give me a changing table when I was expecting. Nowadays it’s gone through two babies and is used simply for clothes storage, which shows that if you think ahead when you choose a changing table, it can be an important piece of furniture in your house for many years to come. Lose Weight And Get Healthy; Can Laughter Be A Cure For Obesity?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Randall Gartman Once there were these two Nuns and they…just kidding! Do you feel any thinner or healthier? Well, according to recent studies, you might not in the beginning but over the long haul, you could actually drop weight. Now, if you are laughing because you are binging on some kind of pastry or you getting trashed on alcohol, this might not work for you but if you are laughing for other reasons, it could pay greatly by reducing fat around your waist and thighs. First of all, I am going dispel a few myths regarding the Cortisol fighting snake-oils that are being advertised. Cortisol is caused by physical and emotional stress! Cortisol is a hormone released by your adrenal glands in response to either physical or emotional stress and that is the reason it is referred to as the “stress” hormone. Whether it’s a lot of missed nights of sleep, an extremely low calorie diet or getting caught in a traffic jam, your body responds in much the same way. It secretes cortisol into your bloodstream, which can cause even more problems. This hormone is part of the “fight-or-flight” response that we have as human beings. Faced with stressful situations and danger, we are left to either run or fight. Your body secretes this hormone as a way of defending against stress and danger. Primarily it increases the flow of glucose, protein and fat out of your tissues and into your circulation system. For example, if a bear were chasing you in the woods, your energy levels would increase because it your body’s natural response to a physical threat. The dangers of having these high levels of the hormone have been associated with storage of visceral fat, diabetes, heart disease, weakened immune system, and chronic depression. Now that you are a little more educated, what do you think would be the best idea for preventing these deadly, hormonal, Cortisol surges? Come-on, I know you know the answer. It isn’t in some magic Cortisol-blocking pill, is it? That’s right, you need to control your STRESS. You can take all the Cortisol blocking stuff you want, but if you aren’t controlling your stress, you could easily be storing abdominal fat if you are a man and hip and thigh fat if you are a woman. I am not saying that supplementation may not be required for some people. I believe that if you aren’t getting enough rest or you are unable to relax, you probably need some nutrients put back into your body. Remember though, supplementation does not mean replacement. Learning how to get your stress levels down is the most productive thing you can do. Also, if you are suffering with anxiety and depression, your body may need some real medical help to get your stress level down to something manageable. In fact, if you are under the kind of stress that causes weight gain, learning relaxation skills are probably the first things your doctor will advise you to do. Also, if you are suffering with anxiety and depression, don’t be afraid to consult with a qualified physician because they can really help you get your stress levels under control. Finally, I went a long way to say, ” Laughter will do wonders for your stress levels”. Relaxation doesn’t always mean just laying down watching TV so you can’t use this issue article as an excuse for being lazy. You just need to learn how to calm down and recognize stress. Check out this research from Dr. Lee Berk. Therapeutic Benefits of Laughter (RESEARCH) Dr. Lee Berk and fellow researcher Dr. Stanley Tan of Loma Linda University in California have been studying the effects of laughter on the immune system. To date their published studies have shown that laughing lowers blood pressure, reduces stress hormones, increases muscle flexion, and boosts immune function by raising levels of infection-fighting T-cells, disease-fighting proteins called Gamma-interferon and B-cells, which produce disease-destroying antibodies. Laughter also triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, and produces a general sense of well-being. Following is a summary of his research, taken from an interview published in the September/October 1996 issue of the Humor and Health Journal. Laughter Activates the Immune System: In Berk’s study, the physiological response produced by belly laughter was opposite of what is seen in classical stress, supporting the conclusion that mirthful laughter is a eustress state — a state that produces healthy or positive emotions. Research results indicate that, after exposure to humor, there is a general increase in activity within the immune system, including: An increase in the number and activity level of natural killer cells that attack viral infected cells and some types of cancer and tumor cells. An increase in activated T cells (T lymphocytes). There are many T cells that await activation. Laughter appears to tell the immune system to “turn it up a notch.” Increases antibodies IgA (immunoglobulin A), which fights upper respiratory tract insults and infections. An increase in gamma interferon, which tells various components of the immune system to “turn on.” An increase in IgB, the immunoglobulin produced in the greatest quantity in body, as well as an increase in Complement 3, which helps antibodies to pierce dysfunctional or infected cells. The increase in both substances was not only present while subjects watched a humor video; there also was a lingering effect that continued to show increased levels the next day. Laughter Decreases “Stress” Hormones: The results of the study also supported research indicating a general decrease in stress hormones that constrict blood vessels and suppress immune activity. These were shown to decrease in the study group exposed to humor. For example, levels of epinephrine were lower in the group both in anticipation of humor and after exposure to humor. Epinephrine levels remained down throughout the experiment. In addition, dopamine levels (as measured by dopac) were also decreased. Dopamine is involved in the “fight or flight response” and is associated with elevated blood pressure. Laughing is aerobic, providing a workout for the diaphragm and increasing the body’s ability to use oxygen. Laughter brings in positive emotions that can enhance - not replace — conventional treatments. Hence it is another tool available to help fight the disease. Experts believe that, when used as an adjunct to conventional care, laughter can reduce pain and aid the healing process. For one thing, laughter offers a powerful distraction from pain. In a study published in the Journal of Holistic Nursing, patients were told one-liners after surgery and before painful medication was administered. Those exposed to humor perceived less pain when compared to patients who didn’t get a dose of humor as part of their therapy. Perhaps, the biggest benefit of laughter is that it is free and has no known negative side effects. So, here is a summary of how humor contributes to physical health. More details can be found in the article, Humor and Health contributed by Paul McGhee Muscle Relaxation - Belly laugh results in muscle relaxation. While you laugh, the muscles that do not participate in the belly laugh, relaxes. After you finish laughing those muscles involved in the laughter start to relax. So, the action takes place in two stages. Reduction of Stress Hormones - Laughter reduces at least four of neuroendocrine hormones associated with stress response. These are epinephrine, cortisol, dopac, and growth hormone. Immune System Enhancement - Clinical studies have shown that humor strengthens the immune system. Pain Reduction - Humor allows a person to “forget” about pains such as aches, arthritis, etc. Cardiac Exercise - A belly laugh is equivalent to “an internal jogging.” Laughter can provide good cardiac conditioning especially for those who are unable to perform physical exercises. Blood Pressure - Women seem to benefit more than men in preventing hypertension. Respiration - Frequent belly laughter empties your lungs of more air than it takes in resulting in a cleansing effect - similar to deep breathing. Especially beneficial for patient’s who are suffering from emphysema and other respiratory ailments. (SIDE BAR FROM Randall Gartman: It will also help balance Oxygen and Co2 levels, which could help anxiety sufferers with hyperventilation) —End of Research— Now, Let me show you how you can apply what you just learned. Sit in a chair, check your shoulders and let them relax but keep your posture straight so you can breathe properly. Imagine your butt sinking into your chair but feel yourself centered, neither leaning forward or back. Breathe in from your diaphragm to the count of 4, hold your breath to count of 4 and release your breath to the count of 4. If you want to know how to breathe properly, watch an infant sleep because they haven’t learned how to breathe improperly yet! As you take each breath, tighten up your toes to the count of 4, hold that tension to the count of 4 and release the tension slowly to the count of 4. Perform that routine for each body part in this order: toes, feet, calves, thighs, buttocks, abs, chest, back, arms, hands, neck and face. After you finish the above exercise, discover what it’s like to finally be relaxed and just sit there for a few minutes. If it is at night, you can do this lying down so all you need to do is close your eyes and get some sleep. However, if it is daytime, I want you stand up (if you can) and stretch and put a big goofy smile on your face. I mean cross your eyes and jump up and down like a crazy person. Don’t stop until you are laughing! Now that you know that laughter is awesome medicine for fighting obesity and a variety of health issues, how often do you think you could practice putting a smile on your face? I am getting thin right now. In fact, I am exercising in public right now–LOL. (c) 2003 - 2004 Randall T. Telephone - Phone Number Insanity

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell]Michael Russell In this article we’re going to discuss just some of the many problems faced when issuing telephone numbers to the general public. Anyone who said that you can’t ever have too much of a good thing obviously never had to issue telephone numbers to an exploding population. Back in the good old days when the telephone was first invented there weren’t that many people who even had one. For that matter, there weren’t that many people period. Take New York City, which is one of the largest cities in the world today. The whole population of the United States in the 1880 census was a little over 50 million. The population of JUST New York City alone today stands at over 8 million people. And that’s just ONE city. As for the number of people who had phones back then, well it was a very small percentage to say the least. Less than 10% of the people in the United States had phones. Today, almost everybody has a phone unless they live in a cave. The truth is, today you just can’t live without a phone. And for each person who has a phone that’s one more phone number that has to be given out. With the current phone system of 10 numbers, 3 for the area code and 7 for the number itself, that gives us a finite number of phone numbers that can be issued. Granted, mathematically we shouldn’t run out of numbers if you just apply pure mathematics. But then you have to take into account that certain numbers can’t be used. For example, because of information and emergency service numbers in the United States (411 and 911) no area codes can begin with those numbers and no phone exchanges can begin with those numbers. But restricted numbers are not the main problem we are faced with issuing phone numbers to customers. The problems only begin there. Aside from the fact that more people have phones today and there are more people in the world to have phones, people today as a family have more phone numbers. For example, as recently even as the 1970s, a family of 4 had one phone number. Oh they may have had more than one phone in the house, such as one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen, but they both shared the same number. Today, a family of 4 probably has 5 or even 6 different phone numbers in their home. Aside from the main home number, in most families, each member of the family has a cell phone with each one having a different number. Aside from that, since many people do work from their homes today, they also have either a fax number of a separate line installed for an Internet connection. So the number of phones per household has increased by a factor of 5 or 6. As a result issuing numbers has become a nightmare. States are having to break up into more area code segments. For example, in the 1960s, New Jersey had just 2 area codes, 201 and 609. Today we now have 201, 908, 732, 976 and 609. And still, New Jersey is running out of numbers. And this problem is happening all over. And it will only get worse. With the increasing number of ways to use a phone (throw aways) the number of phone numbers that will be needed will only continue to increase. The 13 digit phone number may be closer to reality than you think. ——————————————————- Michael Russell Your Independent guide to [http://telephone-guides.com/]Telephones ——————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell http://EzineArticles.com/?Telephone—Phone-Number-Insanity&id=171135 lipstick it fetish at picture is perfect on pussy how teen did model but anne got sex on toys did dildos this

Home Equity Loans and How to Get the Best One

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Luke_Ashworth]Luke Ashworth A home equity loan is a secured loan that uses your equity in your home as collateral. Home equity loans can be obtained at competitive interest rates and with flexible repayment terms. Many lenders are even willing to extend home equity loans to those with damaged credit; due to the fact these types of loans are less risky for the lender. While your local bank may offer home equity loans, in many cases it is wise to look elsewhere for a home equity loan. Seek out companies that are dedicated solely to providing loans. By doing so, you increase your chances of getting better rates and better terms. Shop around, not only for different types of lenders, but also for different types of loans. Take a look at loans with both fixed and variable interest rates. In most cases, a fixed rate loan is best, saving you from being at the mercy of fluctuating interest rates. However, there is no harm in looking at variable interest rate loans as well, just in case you find a variable interest rate loan that fits your particular needs better than a comparable fixed-rate loan. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. There may be a temptation to take out a loan in a larger than necessary amount. Though you may be able to think of many things you could do with the extra money, you have to keep in mind that you are required to repay the money you borrow. Borrowing a huge amount may make it difficult for you to repay your loan and may lead to you losing your home and severely damaging your credit. Instead, go for a loan in an amount you can repay without a struggle. How to Get the Best Home Equity Loan Wondering how to get the best home equity loan? Like with so many things, the secret to getting the best deal lies in taking the time to research and compare. Obtain loan quotes from several different types of lenders to ensure you find the loan with the lowest possible rate and the best repayment terms. Don’t stop at just comparing quotes, however. Ask plenty of questions. Speak to the lenders you contact for quotes and ask for a detailed explanation of the loan plans they offer. If there’s something you don’t understand, ask for an explanation. Though you may feel that you have enough information about interest rates and monthly payments to make a decision, it is best to make certain you know the details of the loan you are considering inside and out. Making a decision too quickly can cause you to overlook important information, ending with you paying more for your loan than is necessary. Go ahead and negotiate. If you feel you may be able to get a better loan deal, let the lenders and brokers you are dealing with know you have other offers. Request lower interest rates and better terms from each lender and let them compete for your business. This type of negotiation just may assist you in getting a better loan deal. Above all, read all the paperwork you receive carefully before you sign it. After you’ve read it once, read it again. Don’t overlook the fine print. Reading through all the paperwork carefully can save you tons of money and years of headaches. If the documents contain mistakes or are not what you expected, do not sign. Contact the lender to negotiate changes or take your business elsewhere.
