By Jacqueline M. Schimmel First, youll want to begin to purchasing an archival safe and acid-free album of your choice. Sizes can range anywhere from 6×6 to 12×12. If you want to make one as a gift, you might want to use a smaller size. You can include page protectors, but its not a necessity. The album itself can be spiral bound or postbound. Spiral bound albums are nice, because the spirals can also be embellished giving it a special touch. Decide on a theme. You can turn it into an ABC album, my first year, either whimsical, cartoonisch or elegant, whichever you prefer. Next youll want to choose your colors, blue/green/brown/yellow/orange for boys, ink/purple/yellow/orange/brown for girls and green/yellow/brown for unisex. If possible try to coordinate the colors in the photograph with your cardstock and coordinating patterned papers. Try to stick with double layouts as it is more pleasing to the eye to have coordinated layouts. I usually take the right side of a double spread for the photo(s) and the left side for journaling. You might want to stick with the same color schemes throughout, changing the style from double to double layout. When embellishing, try to keep it simple. A simple bow, sticker, tag, buttons or flower with ribbon might do. If youre using a small album, then you have to make use of the space you have available, so its best not to clutter the pages with embellishments. Different types of embellishments you can use are stickers, diecuts or cut-outs of baby carriages, baby bottles, safety pins, real saftey pins, bows, angel wings, baby buttons, letter beads, metal plaques with babys hands and feet or various stamp images. Just go to your local scrapbooking store and youll see what you might need. For the journaling, you might want to use your printer and print on vellum. It gives the layout a very special and soft look. Adhere the vellum with brads, staples and ribbon, buttons, mini safety pins, eyelets, or with vellum adhesive. If you want a very personal touch, use your handwriting. I tend to mix the two. You can also use large tags for journaling Youll also want to decorate the front cover. Sometimes you can find albums with windows on the cover, which is great for placing a beautiful photo of the baby. Its a good idea to take a piece of transparency to cover the photo for protection in case there isnt already one included. Cover the front partially or completely with patterned paper, use a wide piece of ribbon and tie around the front cover near the spine. If you have a spiral album, tie a few ribbons into the spirals. Embellish the frame and put on the babys name and viola! Cover finished! When making an album for someone else, youll want to make a pre-made scrapbooking album without photos. Make sure that you include photo mats to adhere the pictures onto and make titles or journaling generic. i.e. Sweet Little Angel can be for both a girl and a boy. By Matt Shuebrook I’m a 41 year old male who is 5′9" and about 225 lbs. I would like to lose 50 lbs and get down to 175 through diet and exercise (mainly walking and jogging). My excess fat is mainly in the abdomen and love handle areas and my concern is that I will experience sagging skin in those areas after I lose the weight. Is someone in my category at risk for this? I’ve heard this really only affects people who need to lose over 100 lbs. Is that true? Answer: Someone who only needs to lose 10 lb is at risk of having saggy skin. The truth is that no matter how much weight you lose, if you lose it the wrong way it will clearly show. And in most cases it is going to show when you lift your arms and their are wings flapping around or when you lift your shirt and you see tires and donuts bouncing around. To avoid having this happen to you, you need to be sure to do a couple things. 1. Don’t aim for more than 3-5 lbs of weight loss per week. High intensity cardio intervals C. REST Too many people don’t push their muscles to the point in which their muscles push back. Its not uncommon and since children actually are the purest of humans, it might be safe to say if a child is depressed-and they actually tell you that-its a rather serious issue. One of the most common misconceptions about childhood depression is:”what do children have to be depressed about?”. Perhaps this reveals a few misunderstandings about childhood depression and what it is. It is indeed quite similar to clinical depression-borrowing from medical terminology and is not just down moods resulting from a child being depressed cause they have just been punished or have been told they cant have something. No, childhood depression is more intrusive into the childs very existence, may be long-lasting and if not attended to life threatening. Perhaps another misconception may have to do with us thinking, being a child is a care-free, trouble free stage of human life. Not necessarily, with peer acceptance, school and family expectations, it is enough to make a kid worry and could be a huge factor to be considered in regards to dealing with a case of childhood depression. Childhood Depression: Common Causes 1. Family History of Mental illness or suicide. 2. Abuse (physical, emotional or sexual). 3. Chronic illnesses. 4. Keep in mind though; this radical step is suited only for adults not necessarily for kids. Devote thirty minutes or more a day for open air recreation for yourself and your family.
